Art and Math make an exciting combination!
Students can explore, practice, and create math inspired art using the iPad. Symmetrical design and Escher-like tessellations are two examples.
Amaziograph
Amaziograph can create both symmetries and tessellations. There is a nice variety of choices in basic symmetries and tiling symmetries (tessellations). This app is only $.99 which is a great buy for such an impressive app.
Below is a video from Tricia Fuglestad using the app with her students to create translational tessellations.

iOrnament: draw creative geometry art
Create fascinating symmetrical designs with this app. Once you start it's hard to put down. This $.99 app has an incredible amount of controls to adjust. Many different symmetries can be explored.

Symmetry Lab Pro Basic
Symmetry Lab Basic allows students to draw unique symmetrical line designs. This free version has basic features and a nice choice of colors. A drawback to this free version is that it doesn't allow you to easily save the image to your photo gallery. You can take a screen shot of it though. (To take a screen shot on your iPad hold down the home button and on/off wake button at the same time)
$.99 will get you an upgrade from the basic version. The paid version has a save feature and different kinds of symmetry options.

Help students learn about symmetry, slides, flips, and turns playing this game -
Symmetry Shuffle
Symmetry Shuffle is a game that can be played by kids to help learn about symmetry and geometry. Puzzles are solved by sliding, flipping, and turning artfully designed images. This app is $1.99
Along with hours of practice on these math concepts, the artistic images can inspire students to create their own artwork based on these math concepts.
