Yes! iPad apps can play an important role in ceramics lessons! Let's explore the Pottery HD app - This fun app can let students create virtual clay vessels. The students, and you, will be involved in the game of the app but it has so much more value in the art room than just a game. Students can use the app to develop designs for clay vessels. It can also be a great way for students to learn and become familiar with different types of vessels shapes. See how middle school art educator Lockie Chapman uses this app with her students in her blog post - Ceramics and Gamification Another great app for creating 3D clay work on the iPad is 123D Sculpt This one is a free app. Has anyone tried this app with students in art classes? If so...tell us about it!

My 5th grade students completed a great project using this awesome app. Check out the movie below and learn more about this project on my art ed blog - SplatsScrapsandGlueBlobs Here's another great example of using the iPad in the classroom from Karen Bosch at Southfield Christian Elementary School! This one combines Art and Literacy with Kindergarten students. Students used the free app Hello Crayons to draw a picture of something that began with a certain letter. The Hello Crayons app is a simple drawing app that is free - yet it has a lot of in-app purchasing options to increase colors and accessories. I have yet to test this one out - so if you have given it a try - let us know what you think! Hello Crayons App Click here to check out Karen's Blog post on this lesson!iPad 2 with a QR reader makes it easy for students to scan a code and then enter an artist statement for their works on Artsonia! Here's a great use of the FaceJack app. 3rd Grade students made their owl paintings give advise on ways to be wise. Check out this great project of by Suzanne Tiedemann and her students! http://baart.weebly.com/1/post/2012/02/3rd-grade-owls-share-their-wise-tips-seelisten-to-the-artwork-speak.html
A lot of skills were practiced in this wonderful art lesson by Tricia Fuglestad! Check it out! http://drydenart.weebly.com/1/post/2012/02/happy-valentines-day-from-our-1st-graders.html Today I introduced the iPad with two of my 3rd grade classes. Using the Faces iMake app.
Check out the fun we had! - http://splatsscrapsandglueblobs.blogspot.com/2012/02/oh-faces-imake-with-3rd-graders.html Suzanne Tiedemann, an awesome art teacher in South Brunswick, NJ, is always on the lookout for a great app to use with her students. She recently used Phantasy app for the iPad to let her Kindergarten and 2nd grade students take their "Love Bird" drawings to a new level. Check out Suzanne's Blog post with details on this great project! ----> baart.weebly.com
Karen Bosch (@karlyb on Twitter) is always doing some great things in the art room that combines Art and Technology. Today she posted a link to her 3rd graders using the Splice app on the iPad to put together videos of their patterned owl project.
Check it out here ----> http://blogs.southfieldchristian.org/pixelsandpaintbrushes/2011/11/22/patterned-owls/ This page will be a place to share all the great project and examples that creative art teachers come up with. Theresa GillespieI have been teaching Art for over 18 years in the Moline School District in Illinois. I have a BA degree in Art Education and a MEd degree in Education & Technology. I love Art and Technology - it's a great combination! I enjoy coming up with new projects and ideas for the students and I to get creative with. Personally I enjoy many different art mediums. Acrylic painting is perhaps my favorite, but I’ve never met a visual art form I didn’t enjoy. Archives
